The short version
We use Google AdSense to show advertising. Google and its partners may set advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, to serve personalised ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. Your theme and your consent choice are kept in your browser's local storage, which we cannot read from our servers. Where the law requires it, advertising cookies only load after you accept.

All of these are strictly necessary for a feature you use or are set by your own choices, so they do not need consent. The htm_region cookie is only set when our host tells us your country, and it never contains your location itself.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which explainers are useful. It sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<id>, which remember an anonymous visitor ID for up to two years so visits can be counted. Google does not give us your name or contact details. Here is when it loads:
- UK, EU, EEA and Switzerland: only after you choose “Accept” on the banner, or the same button below.
- Everywhere else: by default, unless you choose “Decline” below.
